Corporate Work Study
Cristo Rey Miami offers an affordable college preparatory education to underrepresented youth in communities with limited access to quality options.
The signature and differentiating component of Cristo Rey schools is the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP). Through this innovative program, students earn approximately half of their education, gain job experience, and realize the relevance of their education while providing real services to local businesses. In turn, CWSP helps address the workforce development challenges most companies face by developing minority candidates with the social and technical skills to perform the jobs of the future.
At Cristo Rey Miami High School, students take a full four-year college preparatory course load, and participate one day each week in a four-year Corporate Work-Study Program. Through this program, each student applies their corporate work-study curriculum in a professional business setting five days each month.
The Cristo Rey Miami Corporate Work Study Program is separately incorporated as a 501(c)(3) and operates as an employee leasing agent within Cristo Rey Miami. Students are employees of the Work Study Program, not the Corporate Client. The Work Study Program handles all payroll, W-4, I-9, Workers’ Compensation, FICA, FUTA, and other employment matters for the students. A fee for the service is charged to the company and is deducted as a business expense.
Students at Cristo Rey schools work in a four-student job sharing team to cover a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 9 am- 5 pm, during the school year. The academic schedules are structured so that students work without missing a class.
