“Our founding principal embodies the spirit of Cristo Rey and Catholic education,” said Billy Bludgus, Ed.D., President, Cristo Rey Miami. “He is a proud graduate of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago, and is deeply committed to giving back to the Cristo Rey movement. His wife, sister, and brother are also Cristo Rey graduates, while his parents were part of the school’s parent leadership team.”
Mr. Muñoz distinguished himself among our diverse and talented applicant pool in a number of key areas of school leadership: instruction, curriculum, academic achievement and school culture. He has a depth of experience working with students of Cristo Rey’s demographic and cares deeply about students’ success.
Of his appointment, Mr. Muñoz commented, “I am beyond honored to be chosen as the first principal of Cristo Rey Miami. I am excited about the endless opportunities that will develop throughout the launch and first few years of CRM. I promise to lead a school that partners with communities and families to create a family- and student-centered institution that develops intellectual and spiritual leaders in the Miami community and beyond.”
Mr. Muñoz is currently serving as the Dean of Students at Aspira Haugan Middle School, and as the math instructional lead for the network of Aspira middle and high schools in Chicago, IL. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago in Sociology and Latin American Latino Studies, and a Master’s degree in Teaching from the Academy for Urban School Leadership at the National Louis University.
He will begin full-time at Cristo Rey Miami by early August. We are very grateful to those who have been involved in the search process – members of our Board of Directors, representatives from the Cristo Rey Institute and the Cristo Rey Network.
